Treasure Trails - Spy Trail

Having previously done a trail by Treasure Trails (you can read about our Murder Mystery trail here), my eldest daughter Megan decided that she would like to spend one day in half term doing another. Last time we had done the trail as a five - myself, my partner Chris, my girls Megan and Lily, plus my best friend Amy. This time was exactly the same, in fact I think it was probably the fact that Amy was visiting, that made Megan think of doing it!

On Thursday morning we sat down to decide what we would do and after some deliberation, Megan decided on a Spy Trail this time. The town of Louth was an option for this (the town we lived in when Megan was born) and so I think that's partly why she picked it. That and the fact the synopsis began: "A dangerous and evil physcobad..."

We headed off in the car from Gainsborough, only taking us just over an hour to get to Louth. When we got there, we had to deal with the obligatory toilet calls and of course getting lunch, but after that we cracked on with the trail.

The way the trail works is basically the same as the Murder Mystery. However this time instead of looking for a killer and a weapon, you're working out a four digit code to stop a fictitious bomb exploding. You do this by working out different clues (usually by finding a specific object, place etc), placing the answer in "The Mission Answer Grid" and then crossing off the selected digit from "The Combination Box". At the end you should be left with a four digit code and this is your answer. For extra fun, you can even go back on to the website when you get home, enter your answer and find out if you're correct! We were, but I entered it wrong on the site, fictitiously blowing up the whole of Louth!

Obviously I won't spoil any of the answers with you, in case this is a trail you one day want to do yourself. However at £6.99 they are a reasonable price for a few hours of entertainment and if you're having to travel to get to the place where the trail is, you're adding a few more hours of entertainment on top. Couple the trail with a picnic lunch, a small amount of petrol and you've actually got yourself a relatively cheap day out for all the family.

I would definitely recommend these trails, this is the second one we've done. There is a good selection of places you can go, though I would love to see more. I wouldn't say the trails and puzzles were perfect - some are a little obscure and tenuous and some clues are a bit vague. That said they are enjoyable and with three free text clues, you've at least got a little leeway for not quite getting it. I'm pretty sure we might be trying another one come Easter time.
