Roll on Summer
In an astonishing turn of events, March recently turned into April, and brought with it some sunnier weather. The temperature hasn’t always matched up to the sunny days, but it’s getting there, so I thought I’d have a think about all the things I'm looking forward to in summer 2014.
1. I have a big work event to build up to in May, and I’m sure
there’s going to be a certain end-of-term feeling that comes along when it’s
over. With that in mind, I have a weekend away planned with my best friends to
Rye in June, and that is what is getting me through the work stress that
threatens to overtake sometimes!
2. For the last few years, I haven’t really had the money to
spare for new clothes, so when it comes to maxi dresses and flipflops, I have
had to fall back on some older clothes. This year, I’m hoping to treat myself to
a few new bits and pieces for the warmer months.
3. There are loads of babies and children in my life, with lots
of nieces and nephews, and friends’ children too, and I’m looking forward to
taking them out to play in the park and have a good run around. I have great
memories of my own childhood summers, and I want to make sure they have them
when they get older!
4. For the last couple of weeks, I’ve left work a few times and
thought “I’d love to go and sit in a beer garden and have a cold cider.” When
the days warm up a bit, that will be actually be doable!
5. Going out in the evenings after a sunny day often means that
you get a beautiful sunset to gaze upon, photograph, and upload to
Instagram.
6. Sitting in the garden with a book and a drink is a lovely way
to spend an hour or so, and you can’t really do that until the sun is out and
actually warm!
7. I know that barbecues are a bit of an English cliché, but it
doesn’t stop me enjoying them! I’m hoping to have a proper one this year, that
involves really good food, and not just a quick burger and sausage thrown on the
flames.
8. I have a list of 32 things I want to do before my 32nd
birthday, and while none of them are summer-specific, some of them will rely on
good weather to make them more enjoyable. I want to ride a horse, ride a
unicycle, visit a new British county and go to Liverpool, and it would be nice
if it wasn’t raining while I do them!
9. It’s a fact that everyone looks cooler in sunglasses, so I
can’t wait to bust mine out again. I just need to either a) actually find them
or b) buy a new pair.
10. Eating healthily is much easier in the summer, I find. When
it’s hot I just want to drink long tall glasses of something cold, not stuff
myself silly like I do in the winter. So hopefully I can start eating a little
better now, and maintain it through the hot months!
Thanks to Bel for letting me guest post! What are you looking
forward to this summer?
